Who
I'm a neuroscientist interested in how the brain processes information gathered by the sensory organs. In 2006 I finished my PhD at in auditory neuroscience at Oxford University. I'm now at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, where I'm studying how flies discriminate odours, how they learn, and how they make decisions. By recording the fly brain using calcium imaging I can read patterns of neural activity and predict how accurately the animal can learn new information. Further details can be found in my research papers and CV [PDF].
Data Analysis
I generally analyse data using Matlab, but I use R for fitting and plotting statistical models. I find R is faster and easier for this purpose and it also gives you access to interesting packages like ggplots2. Useful sources of information are Matlab Central, my little Matlab page, and my R & S-Plus page.
