I have been dabbling in visual astronomy since the age of about 10. As a teenager I built a 9 inch Dobsonian telescope, which I still have. Right now I observe with an 18 inch but also have a 10 inch travel scope which fits under an airplane seat. I do outreach activities at my local observatory and, when possible, travel further afield to get away from light pollution. Here are some links on Newtonian collimation.
