I administer and maintain the Department's local network, as well as the main Departmental file, mail and web servers. I also have a varying degree of system administration responsibility for the other Unix systems in the Department and provide general computing related assistance and advice to members of the Department.
The Dilbert comic strip often offers insights into the role and mind-set of a network administrator (as well as the attitude of some of the users!).
I look after the Department's email service and I'm the postmaster for the "physiol.ox.ac.uk" e-mail domain (and it's alias, for the benefit of those who like lots of typing, "physiology.oxford.ac.uk").
