Dr. Maki S. Koyama

I am a post-doctoral fellow at Child Study Center, New York University, School of Medicine.

I use a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technique to investigate brain functions in humans. I work with Michael P. Milham (Ph.D., M.D.) and F. Xavier Castellanos (M.D.) at Child Study Center, New York University School of Medicine. My research focuses on resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC), which has been found to be altered in clinical populations such as ADHD, depression, Alzheimer's disease. I am currently involved in a project to investigate RSFC patterns in dyslexia and reading disorders.

I have a long-standing interest in language processing, working memory and attention. I received my B.S. in Psychology from University of Durham in UK and completed my D.Phil. in Physiology at University of Oxford in UK. Under the supervision of John F. Stein (M.D.) and Peter C. Hansen (Ph.D.), I investigated word reading in different scripts (e.g. syllabic Kana, logographic Kanji, alphabetic English), using both behavioural and fMRI techniques.
