Dr. Maki S. Koyama
I use a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technique to investigate brain functions. I am currently working as a post-doctoral fellow with Michael P. Milham (Ph.D., M.D.) and F. Xavier Castellanos (M.D.) at Phyllis Green and Randolph Cowen Institute for Pediatric Neuroscience, NYU Child Study Center. My research focuses on resting-state functional connectivity in dyslexics with and without ADHD.
I have a long-standing interest in language processing, working memory, and attention. I received my B.S. in Psychology from University of Durham in UK and completed my D.Phil. in Physiology at University of Oxford in UK. Under the supervision of John F. Stein (M.D.) and Peter C. Hansen (Ph.D.), I investigated word reading in different scripts (e.g. syllabic Kana, logographic Kanji, alphabetic English), using both behavioural and fMRI techniques.
