Listening to auditory cortex
The ear provides the brain with a spectrogram of the sounds in our environment. Yet we don't hear "frequencies"; instead we listen to people talking, music playing or the sound of traffic. My research aims to unravel how neural activity in auditory cortex uses the spectrogram provided by the ear to reconstruct the sounds within our rather cluttered acoustic environments.
