These images show a simulation using a cellular automata. Heptanol is simulated
by reducing the neighbourhood size from a radius of 7 to 1.5. This increases the effects
of local heterogeneity, and results in spiral breakup. The effect is reversed a few
seconds later by increasing the neighbourhood size back up to 7. The cells are
displaced from a regular grid in random directions to give heterogeneous cell spacing.
The animated gif image on the right may not be playing the correct speed. For
a relatively accurate sample, download the .avi (Windows movie format).
