Genodisc is a European FP7 research project on intervertebral disc degeneration, its associated pathologies and back pain. The overall aim of Genodisc is to improve treatment of pathologies linked to degeneration of the intervertebral disc by developing clearer objective diagnostic criteria. Improving diagnosis will work towards better targeted treatments and faster treatment of acute conditions, thereby helping to prevent the development of chronicity. Genodisc uses a multidisciplinary approach from 10 different laboratories throughout Europe and involves co-operation between clinical personnel, spinal surgeons, research scientists and Industry. This work builds on a previous, highly productive but more basic science EC-funded study of disc degeneration called Eurodisc.
