Student Projects

As well as offering a variety of exciting Ph.D. and M.Sc. projects, our lab provides research opportunities for 3rd year dissertation students and summer students. The size and experience of the Auditory Group means that our students are always well supported. Dissertation projects in this lab usually result in a publication. Interested? Examples of recent project titles:

  • Mapping immediate-early gene expression as an index of the distribution of sound-evoked neuronal activity in the auditory system
  • Using whole-cell patch clamp recordings from midbrain slices to study the integration of visual and auditory inputs that converge in the deeper layers of the superior colliculus
  • Investigation of the responses of auditory midbrain neurons to stimuli presented in virtual acoustic space
  • Behavioural study into the role of the auditory cortex in judging the location of sounds in the horizontal and vertical planes and in temporal processing
  • Studying perceptual learning by adult humans using various spatial hearing paradigms
