Unix machines within the Department no longer accept incoming TELNET or Rlogin connections. In order to log in to one of our systems over the network you need to use the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol.

For people working at machines on the Departmental network, we provide the following SSH client programs, to be used in place of "telnet" or "rlogin" programs:

• SSH for Unix.

• PuTTY for Windows.

• Nifty Telnet SSH for Macs.

For the benefit of people working at machines outside of the Departmental network, we make the same programs available for downloading.
