This page acts as an index to some of the more comprehensive sets of online documentation for the software available from the Departmental file server. In some cases this is the only (or the most accessible) documentation we have for the programs.

• AFNI - an interactive program for viewing the results of 3D functional neuroimaging data.
  
  
• BIND - the DNS server and associated utilities (program and documentation probably only of interest to Computing staff!).
  
  
• Endnote X - the reference database and bibliography program (Windows only). Adobe Acrobat format.
  (also available: Endnote 6, Endnote 8, Endnote 9)
  
  
• GENESIS - a general purpose simulation platform which was developed to support the simulation of neural systems ranging from complex models of single neurons to simulations of large networks made up of more abstract neuronal components. Currently available only for Suns running Solaris 2 and SGIs running IRIX 6.
  
  
• GIMP - the GNU Image Manipulation Program. This is a "PhotoShop" type program for X Windows. Unix only.
  
  
• LaTeX2e - command reference for the LaTeX typesetting system.
  
  
• lsof - "quickstart" guide to the facilities of lsof, a Unix utility for listing open files and network sockets. See also: man page.
  
  
• Matlab R13 (v6.5) and Matlab R14 (v7.0.1).
  
  
• Perl 5.005 (/usr/local/bin/perl) and 5.8.6 (/usr/pkg/bin/perl).
  
  
• Perl DBI module.
  
  
• PGP Public Key Encryption - for secure e-mail and file storage. DOS and Unix.
  
  
• PostgreSQL - database server.
  
  
• Samba - file and printer sharing for Windows clients.
  
  
• Sharity - a package that allows Unix users to mount Windows file shares over the network. Currently only available on Suns running Solaris 2 and SGIs running IRIX 6.
  
  
• Sigmaplot 2002 - the scientific graphing and data manipulation program (Windows only). Adobe Acrobat format. Also refer to the Programming Manual
  
  
• Sigmaplot 9 (2004) - the scientific graphing and data manipulation program (Windows only). Adobe Acrobat format.
  
  
• Sigmaplot 10 (2006) - the scientific graphing and data manipulation program (Windows only). Adobe Acrobat format.
  
  
• SPSS 12 - a statistical analysis program (Windows only). Adobe Acrobat format.
  
  
• Tripwire - a security tool for Unix systems which checks for unexpected changes to important files. See also: man page.
  
  
• VNC - Virtual Network Computing.
  
  
• XMGR - a plotting tool for workstations using Motif/X. Unix only. This program was previously known, in its pre-Motif days, as ``xvgr''.
