Configuring Email Programs

Here are links to configuration information for various e-mail client programs, including some of the non-supported e-mail programs so that they can be configured correctly to use the IMAP mail service on the departmental file server.

For mail accounts on Nexus, refer to OUCS's Email Configuration pages.

If your email program is not listed here, the configuration details below should help.


Physiology Email Program Parameters

Basic configuration information for any mail program used with the Physiology mail server is listed here

Account NameAnything, for example, "My Mail"
Your NameYour full name you wish others to see when they receive mail from you
Email AddressUse the long form of your address, "firstname.lastname@dpag.ox.ac.uk"
Username / Server Login NameYour departmental account username e.g. "abcd0123" (Oxford Username style) or "jkl" (Your initials - old Physiology style)
Mail Server TypeIMAP (not POP3)
IMAP/Incoming Mail Servermail.physiol.ox.ac.uk
IMAP Server EncryptionSTARTTLS (sometimes shown as TLS), (secure password authentication: NO - normal password)
IMAP Server (Sub)directorymail/
Copies Of Sent MessagesIn "sentmail" on mail.physiol.ox.ac.uk
SMTP/Outgoing Mail Servera) for machines in the department: mail.physiol.ox.ac.uk (Port 25, no secure connection required)
b) for home machines: your service provider's smtp server
c) for roaming machines: smtp.ox.ac.uk, port 587, SSO username and password, STARTTLS encrypted secure connection (sometimes shown as TLS), (secure password authentication: NO - normal password)
[note: if you get the message "503 valid RCPT command must precede DATA" when sending from a new computer, it may not have been added to the Oxford DNS]
